I had always thought a balanced meal meant meat, potatoes, and maybe a salad. In 2019, I gave up meat, so I had to take fruit and vegetables more seriously. My health improved right away. Eating more plant foods is good for you even if you don’t give up animal products. I grew up in rural Texas, so home-grown tomatoes, green beans, okra, strawberries, peaches, watermelons and pecans were plentiful. In Guadalajara, Mexico, I learned about other fruits and vegetables that I had never heard of–colorful pitahayas, fragrant guavas, cherimoyas, mangos, avocados and chayotes. When I changed my eating habits, I wanted more information about plant foods and nutrition, so I started this website to collect and organize that information. I hope you will find something here that will result in better health for you too. Mary Ann Lesh
