Welcome to Fruit & Stuff

I grew up in Texas, but I have lived half of my adult life in Mexico. In Texas I learned to appreciate home-grown tomatoes, green beans, okra, strawberries, peaches, watermelons and pecans. In Guadalajara, Mexico, I was introduced to an array of fruits and vegetables that I had never heard about–colorful pitahayas, fragrant guavas, cherimoyas, mangos, avocados and chayotes. I stopped eating meat a few years ago because I wanted better health, so I was motivated to revive my interest in all those plant foods and to learn about others–jackfruit, portobello mushrooms, tofu, and nutritional yeast. I started Fruit & Stuff as a kind of virtual note-card box to collect, organize, and retrieve what I knew and what I was learning. Giving up meat motivated me to eat more fruit and vegetables, but you don’t have to go all-out vegan or vegetarian (that’s a subject for another day) to enjoy the benefits of eating more “fruit & stuff” now.
